Firewalls and the Eccet update mechanism

Eccet requires access to the package repository server

http://www.eccet.de/

during installation and upgrades.

Please make sure that connections to this server via HTTP on Port 80 are possible.

It is possible to configure the update mechanism to access the server via a proxy by using apt-setup. This should be done, if your firewall concept includes a mandatory proxy.

Data security

No confidential data is sent to the update server during updates. In case you still have concerns about the automatic update system using apt, you can manually download and install the update packages from http://www.eccet.de/download/apt/.

ATTETION: This method is strongly discouraged as it cannot ensure a correct package selection. Using it voids any warranties, use at your own risk. Please only resort to that method if connecting the system to a public network even with strong restrictions (i.e. allowing only the update connection) is not acceptable.
